Who Owns the Conversation Around Major League Baseball?

The DataBaseball Player Rankings identify the players driving baseball’s biggest performances, stories and milestones. Rather than relying on one traditional statistic, the rankings are built from each DataBaseball Daily edition and reward sustained impact, exceptional games, historic moments and repeated appearances among the day’s most important players.

These inaugural rankings establish the official DataBaseball baseline. Beginning with the next weekly edition, each player will receive a cumulative point total along with movement, promotions, demotions, new entries and departures from the Top 50.

How the DataBaseball Rankings Work

Every DataBaseball Daily edition awards points for the performances, milestones and storylines that shaped that day in Major League Baseball. The rankings measure sustained impact and newsworthiness rather than simply sorting players by batting average, ERA, home runs or WAR.

A player may earn points from several different categories in one edition. However, the same achievement cannot be counted twice under two different bonus descriptions.
